It is our mission to study, recreate and practice the medieval German Kunst des Fechtens (the “Art of Fighting”), which was an incredibly complex and sophisticated martial arts system. In 2015 Johnny became a full instructor at DEMAS and developing the Dragon Slayers program to teach the Davenriche system to younger ages. We will also train with daggers, sword and bucklers, spear, wrestling and other period weapons. Students will learn strategy and theory, solo drills, partnered exercises, and will fence with blunted steel and wooden long swords. ![]() Our curriculum is based on the manuscript of 14th century German Master Johannes Liechtenauer, and includes teachings and practical application through hands-on instruction from our senior instructors. Emphasis is placed on drills (solo and paired), as well as test cutting with real (sharp) sword and sparring with blunt steel blades. For children who are interested in Japanese swords we recommend the Las Vegas Kendo Club. Focusing on the knightly martial art of the German Longsword, Liechtenauer’s Kunst des Fechtens (Liechtenauer’s Art of Fighting) was developed by Johannes Liechtenauer, a 14th century fencing master. While beginners are welcome to come to any class, they must first schedule a 25 private lesson with Parr Sensei in order to participate. LIHFS, which is short for the Long Island Historical Fencing Society, is a modern martial arts organization dedicated to studying, reconstructing and training with the German Longsword, the weapon central to Historical European Martial Arts (“HEMA”). Classes are held Monday and Wednesday 6-7PM and Saturday from 10-11AM. ![]()
